Design and Build Quality
TECNO continues to push bold design choices as it tries to carve a bigger space in the industry. Unlike other brands that make minor yearly tweaks, TECNO frequently refreshes its designs. The CAMON 50 is no exception.
It features a vertical camera layout with a modest bump, paired with a subtle curved accent that TECNO calls “swan-inspired.”
It comes in multiple colors globally, but in the Philippines, only Moonshadow Black and Nebula Titanium are available.
Despite its mostly plastic build, the CAMON 50 feels surprisingly premium. The matte rear panel resists fingerprints well, while the flat 7.5mm frame makes it comfortable to hold.
Durability is also a highlight. It boasts IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings, meaning it can survive submersion, high-pressure water jets, and even extreme conditions like hot water exposure. It’s built tougher than most phones in this segment.
Overall, it looks clean, feels great in hand, and offers impressive durability for the price.
Up front, there’s a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a punch-hole cutout for the 32-megapixel selfie camera. Bezels are noticeable but acceptable.

The 6.78-inch AMOLED panel has a 2644 × 1208 resolution (~429ppi), a 144Hz refresh rate, and a 2800Hz touch sampling rate.
For the price, display quality is solid. Colors are vibrant, contrast is excellent, and brightness is sufficient even under direct sunlight.
It supports Widevine L1 for Full HD streaming on platforms like Netflix, though HDR playback is missing.
Stereo speakers are surprisingly good. They deliver full sound with decent bass, clear separation, and high volume. Treble is acceptable, though slightly muffled at times.
Hardware and Performance
The CAMON 50 runs on a MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate processor with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage.
TECNO CAMON 50 Benchmark Scores
The device handles everyday tasks reasonably well, but it is not particularly smooth. Occasional stutters can occur when switching between apps or scrolling through content. Not really that noticeable unless you’re used to flagship performance.
However, the more significant limitation is its lack of 5G connectivity, which is a notable omission at this price.
Gaming performance is better than expected, though still limited by the hardware. Genshin Impact is playable at the Lowest settings preset with a 60FPS option.
PUBG Mobile runs smoothly at Ultra frame rates but only on Balanced graphics. Call of Duty Mobile performs well at Medium graphics with Max frame rates, and Farlight 84 runs smoothly at High frame rates on Smooth graphics settings.
Lighter games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Asphalt Legends Unite ran great under high settings.
Overall, the gaming experience is surprisingly decent, but it does not offer the best experience in its segment.

Software and User Interface
The TECNO CAMON 50 runs on Android 16 with HiOS 16 on top. TECNO is promising 5 years of security updates and 3 major Android upgrades, which is a strong commitment for a budget device.
The interface itself is not particularly unique, as several elements feel inspired by other brands, such as dynamic wallpapers and features similar to Dynamic Port. Still, the UI is clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate.
AI features are grouped under the “TECNO AI” section in the settings, making them easy to access and understand. These include tools like Ella Assistant, AI Writer, and AI Eraser.
The One-Tap AI Key is also a practical addition. It allows users to assign different functions for single or long presses, such as launching apps, toggling features, or activating AI tools.
For security, the phone includes an optical fingerprint scanner and face unlock. Both work reliably, although neither is particularly fast.
Cameras
The CAMON 50 features a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700C main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, and optical image stabilization. It is paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel front camera. A flicker sensor is also included.
For video, both the main and front cameras can record up to 2K at 30 frames per second.
One notable feature is FlashSnap, which automatically captures fast-moving subjects. This makes it useful for action shots, pets, or moments that are difficult to time manually. Its performance depends on the situation, though, because some quick movements will still cause blurriness in photos.
In daylight, the main camera delivers impressive results for the price. Photos have vibrant colors, a wide dynamic range, and sharp details.
Low-light performance is also solid. Images remain well-lit with good color retention, although motion blur can occur due to slower shutter speeds.
The phone can produce 2x zoom shots through digital cropping, and thanks to the high-resolution main sensor, these images remain usable even in lower light.
The ultra-wide camera produces decent images with consistent colors and dynamic range, although detail levels are noticeably lower.
The 32-megapixel selfie camera also performs well, delivering sharp images with natural colors and good low-light capability. However, its dynamic range could still be improved.
Overall, the CAMON 50 provides a strong photography experience, which is exactly what you would expect from the CAMON series.
Battery and Charging
The TECNO CAMON 50 comes with a large 6,500mAh battery and supports 45W wired charging.
Battery life is good, though not the best in its class. It lasted 19 hours and 32 minutes in the PCMark Battery Loop Test and 16 hours and 56 minutes in a 1080p YouTube loop test.

Verdict
The TECNO CAMON 50 succeeds in what it sets out to do. It delivers a strong camera experience with its 50-megapixel Sony sensor, backed by features like OIS and FlashSnap, while also offering a premium design, durable build, and a smooth AMOLED display.
However, its compromises are difficult to ignore. The lack of 5G and its average performance make it less competitive in a segment where other devices offer better balance.
If your priority is photography, the TECNO CAMON 50 is a good choice. But if you are looking for stronger performance and more future-proof connectivity, there are better options available at this price point. Or if you have the budget, maybe consider the CAMON 50 Ultra instead.
