TECNO Mobile has released its second-generation foldable phones. There’s the new Phantom V Fold2 and, the one we’re taking a look at now, the Phantom V Flip2.
The TENCO Phantom V Flip2 comes with a bigger, Razr-like 3.64-inch square cover display that wraps around the dual rear cameras. TECNO has designed special wallpapers, animated CutePets 2.0, and an AI Wallpaper Generator to fit this screen format.
TECNO also developed the Dynamic Port that shows widgets on top of the cameras when making calls, voice recording, showing charging status, and more, similar to what you’d see from Apple’s Dynamic Island.
To make the screen more usable, TECNO has created five special games that work with the cover display: Jump Up, Sudoku, 2048 Exploration, Crazy Pet, and PopStar.
You can also use the screen to open the calculator, use it as the viewfinder for the rear cameras, and access the calendar, gallery, and more than 2000 apps.
It then has a double-helical star-track drop-shaped hinge that has zero screen grap when folded, folds the phone from a 30 to 150-degree angle, and can survive 400,000 room-temp folds, 150,000 high-temp folds, and 100,000 low-temp folds.
Also on the cover display are the two 50-megapixel cameras. The one on the bottom is the main shooter with optical image stabilization, while the one on top is an ultra-wide lens.
The main display is a 6.9-inch FHD+ LTPO OLED screen with a high 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz PWM dimming. There’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera on top inside a punch-hole cutout.
Audio is provided by the stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res certification. Moreover, it has a Smart NFC Tag feature that lets you customize NFC tags for business cards, and quick WiFi or Bluetooth connections.
Powering the device is a decent 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 8020 processor. For the battery, we have a 4,720mAh module, which can be charged to 50% in just 15 minutes via the 70W fast charger.
It will also feature TECNO AI with features like AI Smart Erase, AI Drawing Board that turns your scribbles into real art, AI Text Generator, AI Proofread, AI Rewrite, and TECNO’s Ella Smart Assistant now powered by AI.
The TECNO Phantom V Flip2 8GB/256GB has a price of USD699 (~Php38,900) and will be available in select markets this September 23. Release details in Southeast Asia and other regions will be announced soon.
