There’s a new live streaming platform in town. South Korea-based SOOP recently had a global beta launch, offering its services for streamers and viewers on both the web and mobile devices.

To compete with the likes of Twitch.tv and YouTube Live, SOOP is designed to be a comprehensive platform that features a wide range of content, including official esports events and gaming livestreams. Active partnerships with Riot Games and other companies, along with exclusive streaming deals with popular streamers, are expected to help jumpstart the platform and build its audience.

Aspiring streamers are incentivized to sign up with SOOP with its enticing monetization program. Two main methods are currently available to earn revenue—“gems” and subscriptions. Additional options to monetize will be added later, including ad revenue sharing and in-game drops.

The program also currently has an ongoing promotion, ending on August 31, 2024, which lets streamers upgrade their channel monetization tier through easier requirements and thereby gain additional benefits and monetization options. For instance, new streamers on the Rookie tier can qualify for the Affiliate tier by streaming for just an hour. When the promotion ends, Rookie streamers will need to stream for five hours, gain 30 followers and have at least 3 average viewers over the last 30 days.

Can SOOP successfully compete with global household names like Twitch.tv, or will it end the way of Microsoft’s ill-fated Mixer? Only time will tell. You can check out what’s trending and streaming on the platform at sooplive.com.
