After almost three years, the Apple AirPods Pro is finally getting a much-needed refresh with the release of a 2nd-gen 2022 model.
On the surface, the new AirPods Pro 2nd-Gen looks exactly identical to the first generation. However, it did gain a couple of major improvements.
This one now uses an Apple H2 chip that uses computational algorithms to improve noise cancellation, three-dimensional audio, high-fidelity sound, and longer battery life.
Apple also used a custom-built driver and amplifier. Together with the H2 chip, it produces better music with lower distortion, resulting to deeper bass and crisper highs or treble.
The company also brags that the active noise cancellation (ANC) is now 2x more effective in eliminating surrounding noise.
For better fit — which results to better noise blocking and audio quality — the AirPods Pro now comes with four pairs of silicone tips with the addition of an XS (extra small) size.
Possibly one big feature that first-gen users have been requesting is the volume controls. Now, with the 2nd-gen’s swipe gestures, you can adjust the volume by swiping up or down the stem.
Apple has also introduced a feature called Personalized Spatial Audio, which lets you use your iPhone’s camera to map your ear shape for a more customized and tailored experience.
The AirPods Pro case also got a major upgrade. It now works with MagSafe or your Apple Watch charger, alongside the traditional Lightning and wireless charging features.
Each buds can carry 6 hours of juice at a time, with a total of 30 hours with the charging case.
The case also has a U1 chip for Precision Finding using the Find My app. Apple even added a built-in speaker on the case itself so it can play tones for easy searching. Plus, it can play a chime when the pairing is complete or if the battery is low.
Moreover, the case now has a lanyard loop so you can easily hang it in your bag or add blings to it. Pairing with the new iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models should also be seamless like with other Apple devices.
