Apple AirPods Pro, known for its good sound quality and noise-canceling capabilities, may soon get a new feature that could significantly aid individuals with hearing difficulties.

With the anticipated release of iOS 18 later this year, there are reports suggesting that a specialized “hearing aid mode” will be introduced to the AirPods Pro. This information was highlighted in Bloomberg’s recent Power On Newsletter, which got sent out a couple of days ago.

But as of writing, Apple has not officially confirmed the existence of this feature. Details regarding the upcoming hearing aid mode are also unknown.

Apple’s earbuds have previously been acknowledged for their potential benefits for those experiencing hearing loss. A study conducted in 2022 revealed that the AirPods Pro can perform comparably to certain budget-friendly hearing aids, which typically have an average cost around $2,000.

Its good performance is attributed to the great synergy between the AirPods Pro and the iPhone’s Listen Live functionality, which leverages the iPhone’s microphone to capture ambient sounds and relay them through the earbuds. Apple also improved this feature in the latest iOS software update, extending its compatibility to include hearing aids that are “Made for iPhone.”

While the exact launch date of iOS 18 has not been set yet, it is expected that Apple will unveil the first details of the new operating system during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
