Weltmeister, a Chinese company that builds electric vehicles, is coming to the Philippines.

WM Motor Philippines and WM Motor Asia-Pacific recently signed an agreement to make the former the exclusive distributor of Weltmeister cars in the country. This is the first time that a distributorship agreement outside China for the brand has been created.

As per the company, they will first launch the Weltmeister W5, which is a compact crossover feature full EV powertrain. This makes perfect sense since more and more Filipinos are into crossovers.

After the initial model, the brand is expected to launch MPVs and SUV automobiles. Quite a similar strategy with Geely, another Chinese brand, who didn’t release their first sedan, the Emgrand 2022, until after its larger vehicles.

In a statement, WM Motor Philippines head Rashid Delgado said that EV adoption has been an ongoing trend in “developed countries like Norway, the US, and China”. He also expressed their excitement to “see the Philippines take this path and embrace the benefits of a more sustainable mobility solution.”

The company announced that they will open their first dealership at 7NEO, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig on Q2 of 2022.
