vivo is making waves in the Philippines, known for its standout smartphone cameras that cater to today’s digital sharing culture. A significant part of this success stems from its ongoing partnership with the optical giant ZEISS, which has been enhancing the camera capabilities of vivo’s smartphones since 2020.
Recently, this collaboration was celebrated during the vivo V40 Series Media Tour held at the ZEISS headquarters in Oberkochen, Germany, on September 24, 2024. The event brought together media representatives from across Southeast Asia, including tech and lifestyle journalists, offering them a firsthand look at the innovations driving the vivo-ZEISS partnership.
The highlight of the event was the introduction of the vivo V40, the latest flagship model in vivo’s V-series. This smartphone boasts an advanced camera system co-engineered with ZEISS, featuring three powerful lenses: a 50MP ZEISS OIS Main Camera, a 50MP ZEISS Ultra Wide-Angle Camera, and a 50MP ZEISS Group Selfie Camera. These features aim to bring professional-grade photography to everyday users, allowing them to capture vivid and realistic images.

During the media tour, Sebastian Döntgen, the Head of Category Management, Marketing, and Sales at ZEISS, welcomed attendees and discussed ZEISS’ growth and innovation across various sectors, including research microscopy and consumer products. The guests also enjoyed an insightful tour of the ZEISS Headquarters Museum of Optics, led by Bernd Presser, who shared the rich history and technological expertise of ZEISS.

A panel workshop featured Dra. Ramona Ettig, Head of Research and Development Mobile Imaging at ZEISS, who explained the “ZEISS Look”—characterized by vibrant colors, sharpness, and a three-dimensional pop. She highlighted how consumers can achieve this professional look with the V40 series, thanks to the advanced camera technology developed through the vivo-ZEISS collaboration.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A featuring Nick Lee, Product Director at vivo Southeast Asia Department, alongside other ZEISS experts. They discussed the mutual benefits of their partnership, with Oliver Schindelbeck, Senior Smartphone Technology Manager at ZEISS, detailing the rigorous testing processes for camera speed, color accuracy, and clarity. Dra. Ettig noted how ZEISS gains valuable insights into the fast-paced smartphone market from vivo.

To wrap up the experience, media partners from the Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore gathered in Munich for a traditional German dinner. This event provided a relaxed atmosphere for networking and celebrating the successful collaboration between vivo and ZEISS.

With the V40 series, vivo continues to push the boundaries of smartphone photography, offering users a chance to capture life’s moments with stunning clarity and detail, made possible through their strategic partnership with ZEISS.
