Reports of Netflix diving into the video game industry began in May, and a new report today reveals the streaming service company is creating its own gaming platform.
According to Bloomberg, Netflix recently hired Mike Verdu to helm its gaming division. Verdu is a veteran video game designer who worked for EA Mobile and Zynga in the past. His job at Netflix is reportedly to create something akin to the Apple Arcade that will be added as a new section to the streaming platform.
But perhaps the most intriguing tidbit in the report is that Netflix won’t be charging extra fees for its gaming service, so existing customers won’t have to spend more on their streaming subscription to access the games.
Netflix is said to offer its video game service sometime in 2022. Right now, it’s hard to tell if this will become a big hit to subscribers or end up like the failing Google Stadia.
