Over the past few days, reports have been trickling in and hinting that Netflix is eyeing video games as its next focus for expansion. The streaming service is apparently searching for an executive who can jumpstart its gaming venture and grow its business beyond TV shows and movies.

According to The Information, with later reports from Reuters and Axios, Netflix is planning to launch a bundle of downloadable games, with a subscription model akin to the Apple Arcade. While nothing has been made final, Netflix is considering a no-ad gaming service, a lineup consisting of indies and games based on its popular shows, and a 2022 release.

Netflix is not entirely a stranger in the gaming market. It previously released mobile games such as Stranger Things 3: The Game and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics. It also had interactive movies like “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch,” which allowed viewers to choose how the story progresses.
