Nintendo has recently announced that the latest installment to the Pokémon saga is coming to the Nintendo Switch this year! Titled as Pokémon Sword and Shield, it’s the newest Pokémon game announced since Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon back in 2017.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are set in the region of Galar. Galar is an expansive region filled with various types of environment. From idyllic countrysides to contemporary cities, thick forests to craggy, snow-covered mountains. The map is really diverse and from the looks of things, might be based on the UK.
Judging from the trailer released, there seems to be a lot of emphasis on Gym battles. Back in Pokémon Sun and Moon, the gym battles in the game were sort of replaced by “Trials”. These Trials proved to be a good diversion from the usual trainer battles but it wasn’t good enough to fill the gap.
Along with the new game announced, the three starter Pokémons were also introduced in the Trailer video. As usual, each Pokémon represents the main starter elements: grass, fire, and water.
Grookey, the grass type Pokémon, is described as a mischievous Chimp Pokémon that is full of boundless curiosity. Scorbunny, the fire type Pokémon, is a Rabbit Pokémon that is always running about, bursting with energy. While Sobble, the water type Pokémon, is a somewhat timid Water Lizard Pokémon that shoots out attacks as it hides in the water.
As of now, there’s no information available yet with regards to the differences between Shield and Sword. As for the legendary Pokémons, could they be wolves? Judging from the logos of the Sword and Shield, they might be going down that path.
