Retroid has just shared more details about its next portable gaming device, the Pocket Nova. The company is positioning it as a strong option for retro gamers who want to play classics from the early 2000s.

Under the hood, the Retroid Pocket Nova uses a Qualcomm QCS8550 chip. This processor is nearly identical to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a mobile chip known for solid performance. With that kind of hardware, the Pocket Nova should have no trouble running heavier games from the PS2 and GameCube libraries.

The screen measures 4.5 inches diagonally and uses AMOLED technology. It has a 4:3 ratio, which happens to be the same shape as many older TV sets. That makes it a natural fit for console ports and arcade titles from that period.

Retroid also paid attention to battery life. The console comes with a 5000mAh battery and supports fast charging over USB-C. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5 for wireless connections. The whole unit weighs less than nine ounces, so it won’t weigh down your bag or your hands. There is also a microSD card slot if you need to add more room for games.

The starting price of Retroid Pocket Nova is $229 (~Php14,000). That gets you 8GB of memory and 128GB of built-in storage. If you want more RAM, there is a second option at $269 with 12GB of RAM and the same storage space.
