Ragnarok: Monster World, an upcoming title from the storied Ragnarok franchise, has officially joined the Ronin network. With decades worth of exposure in the gaming community, Ragnarok is one of the most iconic franchises with a player base estimated to exceed 68 million globally.
Under development and slated for release in the third quarter of 2024, Ragnarok: Monster World introduces an innovative blend of tower defense mechanics and monster collection. This strategy game, deeply rooted in the expansive Ragnarok universe, will allow players to amass a diverse array of “Ragmons”—creatures that boast unique designs, stats, and abilities. These Ragmons will serve as the cornerstone of the gameplay, enabling players to engage in one-on-one player-versus-player (PvP) duels, story-driven player-versus-environment (PvE) challenges, and guild-based territorial fights.

Ragmons in Ragnarok: Monster World will also be collectible monsters with both in-game functions and on-chain utility. Players will be able to enhance their Ragmons via a “merging” process, comparable to the Breeding system in Axie Infinity. In collaboration with ZERO X AND, these Ragmons are set to become available as NFTs on the Ronin network, featuring iconic creatures from the Ragnarok universe such as Peco-Peco, Spores, Deviruchi, and Porings.
Gamers will be encouraged to build powerful decks from their collection of Ragmons, while also utilizing classic Ragnarok job classes to gain distinctive advantages and abilities. Ragmons will be sold through Mavis Market or via direct in-app purchases.

The partnership between Ragnarok: Monster World and Ronin represents a significant stride for the Web3 gaming sector, which has struggled to bridge the divide with traditional gaming communities. The original Ragnarok Online (R.O.), at its height, enjoyed a massive daily user base of 50 million players, indicative of the franchise’s broad appeal since its debut over two decades ago. This enduring popularity was reinforced just last year when Ragnarok Origin topped the Apple App Store’s charts in key Southeast Asian markets.

Ronin, which already has a strong presence in Southeast Asia because of Axie Infinity games, aims to further cement its ties to the region through strategic partnerships like this. The addition of Ragnarok to its blockchain gaming portfolio is expected to attract even more gamers within Southeast Asia and significantly grow the “Ronin movement.”
