The Philippine government is threatening to ban Roblox in the country.
Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda said that they are putting Roblox on formal notice. The game could soon be restricted, or even fully suspended, in the country.
That’s if they fail to improve their defense against predators, groomers, and those who exploit minors.
Roblox is given until the end of the month to coordinate with local authorities to discuss their plans for making the game safe for children, said Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center executive director Renato Paraiso.
Paraiso said they plan on coordinating with telcos to ban Roblox if the developers fail to answer them. They would also reach out to Google and Apple to ban the game on their respective app stores, creating a geo-fence around the game.
Paraiso added that the game itself is promoting unruly behavior, impatience, and rudeness to kids.
The official also noted that Roblox is already banned in other countries like Turkey, Iraq, and Qatar. It also faced different lawsuits in different US states.
He also urged parents to monitor the gaming habits of their children.
