Getting stuck in a place without access to a Wi-Fi or any wireless connection can be a nightmare of a situation to be in for many people nowadays. Without the internet, you have no way of using the social media or online apps which lets you connect with your loved ones to tell them your plight.
When you are in a place where you are simply cut off from the internet but not necessarily from the coverage of your network provider, you are still better off than one who does not have access on both due to bad geographical location.
While most intuition easily points to this benefit with your device’s ability to send out SMS to people who are remote from you — which is indeed handy — it could also be referring to Google’s nifty app which lets you send your real-time geographic placement via MMS.
Yes, with Google Messages, you can now send your coordinates (well, not specifically) when you are able to send out MMS to people from across.
If you are a Nexus or Pixel device user, this app should already come pre-installed on your device. But if not, then you are still in luck. This app is also available to all Android users in general even though the manufacturer of your phone is not Google.
If the latter, simply just go over to Google Play Store and search for “Android Messages.” This is not a misspelling, however, but a deliberate renaming of the same application for general non-Google smartphone users.
Intuitively, download this app and set it as your default SMS/MMS application.
Sending location coordinates
Sending your location privately towards that someone you trust is relatively easy and straightforward.
Simply tap the Google/Android Messages app to open it. The interface should not be too different from other apps of its kind. Look over to the left side portion of the app and tap on the “+” icon.
From there, a list of icons will appear at the bottom of the screen. Navigate your way to the rightmost icon which essentially signifies “location.” If you are using this feature for the first time, expect to be asked for a permission to grant the app access to your location. Choose “allow.”
You will then be led to a page which lets you type a message and a button below labeled “Select this location.” Click on it and you will be given a list of coordinates of places that are closest to your specific location.
Given the list, simply choose which location is the closest to you. To get an accurate option, simply use your vision to look around and see if there is a nearby establishment which is listed in the options.
When you finally found that place where you are really close at, simply tap and choose that option. This will set a visual information about your location to your recipient. Apart from this map information, you can also complement it with texts which informs the person you’re contacting about your situation.
Just tap on the MMS button on the right side of the screen in order to initiate the delivery of the message across the intended recipient.
