Since having installed 217 Eastern Visayas sites in the last four years, the Eastern Visayas region has experienced improved accessibility to the internet, particularly healthcare facilities as well as COVID-19 vaccination sites, as per the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in a statement.
The demand for the need to connect to the internet is such, that the DICT has allotted a large lump sum of Php26.8 million to implement the project across the area’s six provinces, as per DICT Eastern Visayas Regional Director Felix Tabanao, Jr.

Getting the most sites in the undertaking is Leyte at 120, followed by Southern Leyte at 41 and Eastern Samar at 37. Meanwhile, Biliran, Samar, and Northern Samar get the remaining sites at 12, six, and one site, respectively.
Aside from essential health facilities, other sectors of the region also became the benefactor of the broadened internet service, which includes airports, government buildings, schools, terminals, and other public areas.
