Without any fanfare, Apple went on and launched new iPads. One of them is a refresh to their premium line-up, the iPad Pro 2022.
The iPad Pro 2022, which comes in 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, will now feature the latest in-house M2 chipset from Apple. This 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU is the same one found on the latest MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro.
It also boasts a 16-core neural engine to handle AI and machine learning tasks. As per Apple, the M2 chip brings 35% better performance, 40% improvements in machine learning handling, and 50% higher memory bandwidth compared to the M1-powered iPad Pro.
Another big new feature is the hover feature that works with the 2nd-Gen Apple Pencil. The screen can now detect the stylus when it’s up to 12mm above it, which unlocks tons of new functionality.
While the camera hardware remained the same, the new M2 unlocks new camera features for the latest iPad Pro. For one, there’s the ProRes encoder so you can natively record in Apple’s ProRes codec and transcode it faster.
Smart HDR 4 for photos has also been added.
Apple also brought improvements in the connectivity department. The device now comes with the latest WiFi 6E connectivity that offers twice the speeds compared to older models. Plus, Bluetooth 5.3 and of course, 5G connectivity for the cellular models.
Finally, the device will ship with none other than the latest iPadOS 16 operating system.
The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2022 models are now listed on Apple Philippines’ official website. See prices below. Availability details on authorized resellers like Beyond the Box and Power Mac Center are yet to be announced.
