Right on schedule, Apple has released the new 2024 iPhones. There’s a lot to cover here so for this one, so we’ll be talking about the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus first.
We detailed the iPhone 16 Pro series in a different article. So without further ado, here we have the new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, which now feature a new Camera Control button that’s touch and pressure-sensitive. It lets you quickly launch the camera, scroll through lenses, and other different functions — all without touching the screen.
Possibly the key change that most people will notice is the new camera layout on the back. The two shooters are now in a vertical layout, sitting close to each other. As per Apple, these newly realigned cameras will let users take 3D photos and videos. This spatial media is best viewed on headset like the Apple Vision Pro.
The 12-megapixel ultra-wide also has an autofocus, which now lets you take macro photos and videos. It also absorbs 2.6x more light for better image quality. Meanwhile, the 48-megapixel main shooter can take 2x shots with a quality akin to an actual telephoto lens.
Apple has also introduced a bunch of photo and video features like the Audio Mix, which lets you configure the audio on the video for a more cinematic effect. There are also new Photographic Styles, which are filters you can choose from before you take a photo.
Moving on, the new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are powered by the new A18 chip, which Apple claims is two generations ahead of the A16 Bionic chip on the iPhone 15. It’s 30% and 40% faster in terms of CPU and GPU performance. It sports a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU.
Apple also put a bigger battery, which now lasts for up to 22 hours on the iPhone 16 in video playback and 27 hours on the Plus. It also supports faster MagSafe charging with 25W speeds on a 30W power adapter or higher, providing a 50% charge in 30 minutes.
In terms of build, the new iPhone 16 models come with an aerospace-grade aluminum frame and use a new Ceramic Shield glass that’s said to be “2x toucher than any smartphone glass.”
The Action Button is also here, as well as three new funky colors: Ultramarine, Teal, and Pink. Apple also brought a more proper White colorway.
Apple Intelligence will also be available here, unlike last year’s models, where only the Pro will be getting the AI suite of features.
The new phones are now listed on the Apple Website. The iPhone 16 has a price of Php54,990 for the 128GB model, Php61,990 for the 256GB, and Php73,990 for the 512GB. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Plus comes with the same 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models for a price of Php62,990, Php69,990, and Php81,990.
