The company known for making laptops you can fix and upgrade yourself just announced a new version of its popular 13-inch machine. Meet the new Framework Laptop 13 Pro.

Framework says it listened to what customers wanted and rebuilt the laptop from the ground up. The result is a device with a much larger battery, a new touch display, better trackpad, and Intel’s latest processors.

Let’s start with the battery. The old complaints about short battery life pushed Framework to act. This new Framework Laptop 13 Pro packs a 74Wh battery, which is up from 61Wh on the current model and 55Wh on the very first Framework laptop. The company claims you can stream Netflix in 4K for 20 hours on a single charge.

To make that larger battery fit, Framework had to change the bottom part of the laptop. So if you own an older Framework laptop, you cannot just swap in the new battery. You would also need the new bottom cover and a new input cover for the trackpad. It’s still possible but you need to order extra parts.

Inside, the Framework Laptop 13 Pro runs on Intel’s new Panther Lake Core Ultra Series 3 processors. According to Framework, these chips are very power efficient but still strong enough to run heavy games like Cyberpunk 2077. Buyers can choose between a Core Ultra 5, X7, or X9. There will also be an AMD Ryzen AI 300 series option, which is the same board already used in the 2025 Laptop 13.

The memory configuration has also changed. Instead of regular SO-DIMMs, the Pro uses LPCAMM2. This allows for LPDDR5X RAM, which uses less power and moves data faster. The good news is that the RAM is still not soldered, which means you can add more later if you need to.

The screen is another huge improvement. It is a 13.5-inch touch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 2,880 x 1,920 pixel resolution. The refresh rate can change between 30 and 120Hz depending on what you are doing. Brightness goes up to 700 nits, and the contrast ratio is 1800:1. Each screen is color-calibrated at the factory. Framework’s CEO said the company did not want to add touch at first. But after trying it on the Laptop 12, they found it useful and cheap enough to include.

The trackpad is now a haptic one. It uses four small piezo parts to create a clicking feeling. Framework hopes this will feel as good as the trackpads on MacBooks. The keyboard and fingerprint reader are the same as before.

Cooling has been a weak spot for Framework in the past. The company says it has improved the cooling on the mainboard with help from Intel. During a half-hour call, the CEO said the fan on his Pro model never turned on. That is a big deal for a Framework laptop, but the company says to wait for more real-world tests before celebrating.

The new design also allows for side-firing speakers that come with Dolby Atmos certification.

But here’s where Framework really shines Almost every part from the new Pro can fit into older Framework laptops. You could take a piece from this new 13 Pro and install it into a first-generation Framework 13 from 2021. The only exception is the battery, which needs the new bottom cover and input cover. But even then, you can still upgrade your old machine step by step. Framework promised to bring all existing users along, even if that does not make for flashy headlines.

The pre-built Windows model starts at $1,699 (~Php102,000). If you want the DIY version, that costs $1,199 (~Php72,000).
