O+ Convertible First Impressions

The tablet-laptop hybrid race has been quickly moving forward from the last couple of months. Microsoft and well-known PC and laptop manufacturers have partnered to produce quality Windows powered tablets at a low price. Since then, many local brands have followed suit.

O+ USA finally joined the hybrid device party and announced a pretty capable offering, the O+ Convertible. As the name suggests, it’s both a tablet and a laptop in one. It easily converts to a laptop by attaching the 11.6-inch tablet in the keyboard dock.

The main tablet hosts 32GB of internal storage but there’s no microSD card slot in tow. Fortunately, it’s expandable with the help of the keyboard dock that has 500GB of extra storage. There’s also two USB ports on the keyboard to make it work like a complete laptop by letting you use thumbdrives, mouse, etc.

The 11.6-inch display is great for office work, movie viewing, light gaming, and web browsing. It comes with a 1366×768 pixel resolution which is enough clarity for this size and price point. It also supports a 10-point touch multi-touch screen that can be used to play tablet-optimized games and applications.

As a Windows tablet and laptop, it can install and use Windows 8.1 touchscreen apps and full-fledged Windows softwares (i.e. Photoshop) that are normally used on PCs. This also means that it can play your favorite games like Counter-Strike, Dota, Red Alert, etc.

The design of O+ Convertible is really nice and presents an elegant feel. The brushed metallic design on the cover is beautiful enough to be noticed and it can stand against more popular brands. The keyboard and trackpad are also well-built, making typing and navigating a pleasurable experience.

I’ve been using this as my personal laptop for a couple of days now and I’m quite impressed. It’s quick enough for heavy web browsing (tons of tabs), photo editing and Microsoft Office apps. I’ve installed some games from the Windows App Store and they’re all working very well. Native Facebook and Twitter apps are also available for a much pleasurable tablet experience. The battery life is kinda average but it can probably last an entire work day based on my experience.

  1. It has a sim card port? Why was this not disclosed in the official O+ site?
