Counterpoint Research’s Global Handset Model Sales Tracker has revealed the best-selling phones of 2025.

There’s an obvious trend between 2025 and 2024. The rankings are essentially the same and were only replaced by their direct predecessors. As you can see, the best-selling phone for 2025 is the iPhone 16, replacing the iPhone 15 from the year before.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max follows it at the second spot, and the iPhone 16 Pro on third, taking the spots of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro from 2024’s rankings.

We then have two midrange phones from the Android camp, both from Samsung. There’s the Galaxy A16 5G at the fifth spot and the Galaxy A06 4G on sixth. The third and last Android phone on this list, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, sits at the ninth spot.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17, which were only released in the latter part of the year, managed to take the fourth and seventh spots, respectively.

Counterpoint Research Analyst Harshit Rastogi said that the iPhone 17 series achieved 16 percent higher sales than its predecessor during its first quarter of availability. Apple’s base iPhone 17 model was a standout performer thanks to significant upgrades in the display, RAM, and storage that brought it closer to the Pro variants.

Sales for the iPhone 15 continue to be strong as it sits in the eighth spot.

Rounding out the list is the budget-oriented iPhone 16e.

Due to memory supply issues, Counterpoint forecasts that it will “extensively impact entry-to-mid-segment smartphones.”

“As a result, the flagship smartphones are expected to further increase their presence and sales contribution to the overall market. While replacement cycles are expected to grow, financing, trade-ins and the refurbished market are likely to alleviate the stress,” Counterpoint said.
