There’s no denying that Apple and Samsung are two of the most prominent, household names in the smartphone world, and that shows in the latest study from Counterpoint Research.

Dominating the list is the iPhone 14. It instantly climbed the ranks since it came out in Q3 of 2022. It stayed on top since the first quarter of 2023. The vanilla iPhone models have always been a best-seller for Apple and can be seen in Counterpoint’s previous figures where the iPhone 13 was on top from Q1 2023 to Q2 2022.

The iPhone 13 is so popular it’s still on the top list in Q2 2023’s figures, just below the iPhone 14 Pro series. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Plus still struggles to find footing, much like its predecessors.
Samsung is only the flag carrier for Android phones. Its best-seller is an entry-level device, the Galaxy A14. In fact, all but one of Samsung’s entries on the list are from the affordable Galaxy A-series, thanks to its popularity in Asia and LATAM, which accounts for 60% of all top-10 Galaxy A-series sales in Q2 2023.

That one non-A-series phone that made it is Samsung’s crowd-favorite flagship device, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The said device is so popular in North America and Western Europe that it managed to make it to the top list.
We’ll see how the rankings will change now that the iPhone 15 series is here, the Galaxy S24 series is right around the corner, and new interesting devices are coming out of China.
