The latest smartphone to join the octa-core craze in the Philippines is the SKK Mobile Marian S1. It’s a 5-inch handset with 1GB of RAM, 720p screen resolution, and a 13-megapixel rear camera.

Named after a popular local TV personality, the SKK Mobile Marian S1 is a beaut. And judging from the specs, it’s also a powerhouse; an octa-core processor, along with 1GB of RAM and Mali-450 MP4 graphics, runs under the hood to supply the much-needed juice to make everything on the 5-inch IPS display chug along smoothly. The latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat runs out of the box. There’s only 8GB of internal storage available, but luckily the device sports a microSD expansion of up to 32GB as well.

SKK Mobile also previously unveiled its first octa-core smartphone last month. Dubbed the Kraken, it has the same 5-inch display and processor, but it comes with a lower screen resolution and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.

For photo junkies, there’s a 13-megapixel camera (according to the official specs list, though the device’s promotional image indicates only 8 megapixels) at the back, complete with autofocus, LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front counterpart for selfie shots. The SKK Mobile Marian S1 is also dual SIM capable and should fit comfortably in the side pocket of your pants thanks to its slim 7.7mm profile.

The SKK Mobile Marian S1 is reported to sell for only Php9,999 at company kiosks and outlets across the country. Such price should give the device quite an advantage over the competition, whose prices go beyond the Php10k mark. Every purchase also comes with a free smart case, an extra battery, and exclusive photos and behind-the-scenes video of actress Marian Rivera.
