January is an exciting month for the local tech scene, as it marks the arrival of octa-core smartphones. First among the bunch is the Starmobile Diamond X1, whose specs have been unveiled little by little. It also got scored in the AnTuTu benchmark, too.

To recap, last month’s teasing of the Starmobile Diamond X1 describes it as a 6-inch phablet with an octa-core processor, which is later confirmed to be the 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592. Also verified are the amount of RAM (2GB), OS (Android 4.2.2), and cameras (18 and 8-megapixel shooters with back-illuminated sensors).

The good folks from Unbox.ph have also revealed how the Starmobile Diamond X1 fares against the competition. As benchmarked in AnTuTu, its healthy score above 27,000 puts this local device right along with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One.

Though it’s still the early half of January, expect to hear more about the Starmobile Diamond X1 soon.

  1. Diamon X1 performs very well and I really love this phone allot. Only one thing I observe was the blurry of the screen or some kinda shadow on it. Oh well that’s not the case since my unit is still under warranty. My major problem was #Starmobile services really terrible, slow and disappointing yet I didn’t expect this kind of a service that you are serving.

I send them the unit for repair last October 12, 2014 and until now they haven’t repaired it, why? because they always say they are just waiting for the parts. What!!! first of all before you release a new product make sure you already have the replacement kit on your stock and no body releases any item without that. Okay, so I’m loosing my temper and would like to request a warranty extension of the unit since it’s already staying with them for “too long” and you know what they say “No sir that is not possible” -What! I can’t really imagine what kind of service you have.

Friends, relatives, forums and blog recommendation is a highly recommended phone but once your phone is dead…GOOD LUCK!

  2. Bad phone…what’s the use of octacore if not for online games or other heavy games…cguro dahil din yan sa metal back cover..ok sana kung plastic nlng para hindi masyadong mag absorb ng heat…sana quadcore nlng to for browsing or watching HD movies…

  3. Very smooth phone for browsing and taking pictures for only a SHORT TIME! MSYADONG MAINIT UNG PHONE KAPAG GAMITIN MO FOR 10-15 MIN OF TAKING PICTURES OR ONLINE GAMING. I AM A USER FOR 3 MONTHS, BUT X1 RIGHT NOW ALWAYS RESTARTS BY ITSELF KAPAG GAMITIN KO FOR NOT EVEN 5MIN OF PLAYING ONLINE GAME.

  4. 4cores ang gpu, good.
    pero note 3 parin..haha
thl t100s ka nlng if you want an octa-core phone and with good specs

  5. i honestly think Cherry Mobile is destroying the image of local brands… good specs pero crappy software (not optimized, buggy, and rushed)… so far, local brands, id rather go with starmobile, ive seen some friends have it and im impressed with the clean well thoughtout UI. its optimized and feels ‘complete’. i wanna get to hold this soon, try it out and exited to see an unboxing online first :)

  6. sa totoo lang kahit lampasan pa nyan ang note 3 ang build quality hindi topnotch tsaka ano na naman kaya size battery nyan 2000mah?! naku kahit tag 16k pa yan di ako bibili nyan sa trusted nalang ako aanhin mo naman ang antutu na score kung flimsy naman ang quality ng fone? sa mga techie guys like you and me isip isip din quality first before value but if both is present then go for it. btw phone ko is galaxy s4 lumia 520 s3 mini and they’re durable fones except sa xperia go ko na nasira

        1. Kaya nga eh ASSEMBLED IN CHINA MADE IN CHINA pero BRANDED ang phone di parehas neto MEDIATEK BULLSHIT yung mama ko bumili ng cherry mobile cosmos z amputa ng quality tsaka oversaturated yung screen amoled nga eh sobra naman sa s4,s3,etc yung mga amoled may pagka saturated nga pero di naman sobra tsaka yung plastik na casing amputa ng quality buwiset! Kaya guys think many times before spending your hard earned cold cash before buying these phones, wag kayo mabulag sa specs kasi kahit octa core yan parehas nyang starm x1 8 cores nga mas mabilis pa dyan snapdragon 600 lalo na 800 na quadcore in real life. FYI snapdragon runs galaxy s4 and 800 xperia z ultra note 3 lg g2 etc.

    1. O+ and Starmobile have their own minions of payola publicists.

That’s how it goes sa mga Philippine tech blogs.

      1. True nababayaran ang mga bloggers sa pinas in exchange for a good review… false information. take note mga mabibigat at kilalang mga bloggers pa ito.

        1. I think you guys mean the bashing because of the price because they are more expensive than other local brands – not necessarily ”bad” products. Lols

I think the reviews are fine. The products are good but pricey for what they offer. That doesn’t mean it should get a so called “negative” review. I think a negative review should happen if the product is faulty or doesn’t work as advertised – not only because it’s expensive. The only thing that we all complain about O+ producs is their cost. Also, almost all reviewers always point out that it’s expensive than the competition to let people know na there are other options to choose from if ever they want a cheaper alternative.

          1. But we have to face reality, try mo bumili nyan tingnan natin kung tatagal yan ng 1 or 2 years I BET NOT! I don’t agree with the reviews kasi positive lahat lagyan nila ng honest opinion dapat. I’m just sayin’. Well nasa bloggers na yan I duly respect what they write and their opinion but as an avid reader, I also want to read the downside of every product because it helps me judge whether it is viable for me to purchase the item.

  9. The Price? What seems to be holding Starmobile back?
