Skygazers and astronomy enthusiasts rejoice! NASA recently launched an application allowing users to quickly track the International Space Station across the sky.

The International Space Station (ISS) is the biggest modular space station currently roaming in low Earth orbit across the planet. This station is where astronauts and cosmonauts call home while studying and exploring the galaxy.

Because the ISS is a large spacecraft moving around the globe, it has become a “night sky phenomenon” where enthusiasts would try and catch the ISS when it passes by their country.

Now, NASA has made it easier for users to spot the spacecraft through augmented reality features and a comprehensible interface, making it available for Android and iOS for broader access.

The International Space Station can be seen more clearly during the early morning hours or towards the evening when there is just enough sunlight left to highlight the spacecraft.

The app released by NASA gives detailed information on when the station will be flying by your location, giving the best time when you will be able to spot it in the sky easily and the duration of its passing by. Other information will include how high it is flying and the direction it is heading towards.

Meanwhile, on the app’s home page, users will find a countdown on when the next time the ISS will fly by their area and where its position is as it continues to traverse the planet. There is also a feature where users can monitor the station’s movement, enabling the notification setting so they won’t miss the spacecraft every time it passes overhead.

The primary factor in this new app is its Augmented Reality (AR) feature that enables users to easily find the station once it is within their vantage point. What’s more, NASA’s Spot the Station application offers this AR feature for free, with no ads, so the experience runs smoothly.

Besides the application’s tracking feature, you can learn more about the ISS and the updates with the crew on board with information connected and gathered from NASA’s webpage.
