As traveling is seen as something to experience rather than merely a means to cross things off a bucket list, many Filipino millennials and Gen Zs are choosing to splurge on travel, according to a survey conducted by online travel platform, Klook.

Despite holidays being traditionally taken advantage of as time off work, said cohorts view it as an opportunity for encountering life events. It beats other common considerations such as flight options and accommodations, such that they are willing to fork money on it, the result claimed.

A third of all Millenials and Gen Zs who travel also seem keen on spending more than double their monthly salary ($1,069) on travel expenses, amounting to no less than $2,000.

In the Philippines, travelers are usually not willing to spend more than $1,000, but it’s still more than double the average monthly salary.

As traveling on short trips is considered relatively cheaper than longer ones, said groups also appear to go on an excursion to locations that are closer to home domestically (58 percent) and within the Asia Pacific (APAC) region (26 percent). Countries such as Singapore, Japan, and South Korea are topping the list of the most-visited areas.

In the age of information, Millenials and Gen Z travelers seem to tap on available resources online, such as checking out reviews and recommendations, before booking, essentially displaying some smart moves about holiday travels.

Part of the draw for Filipinos opting to venture into locations also seems to boil down to the desire to generate social media-worthy content as they take inspiration from others from Facebook (86 percent), TikTok (71 percent), and Instagram (63 percent).
