It appears that Pinoys are not just spending too much time on social media but also listening to music.
Filipinos spend an average of 126 minutes, or more than two hours, listening to music per day, the longest in the world, this is according to the Musika Pilipinas Project, a seminal research study funded by the DOST – National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST – NRCP).
“Music is more than a means of entertainment – it is the people’s way to communicate feelings, resonate their stories, and build on their emotions,” says Dr. Maria Alexandra Chua, project leader of Musika Pilipinas.

However, despite music’s importance in our culture and daily lives, the research also revealed that more than 50% of Filipinos employed in the music industry earn less than PHP 20,000 per month, just a little more than the minimum wage in NCR. As a result, most of them have to find an income outside the music industry to finance their regular expenses.
The survey involved 700 respondents and gathered data from focus group discussions with music stakeholders, music-related companies, and organizations nationwide.
It also showed that 61.1% of Filipinos in the music industry hold college degrees, and the majority are freelancers.
