The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reminded the buying public to be careful when buying Christmas lights and fireworks for the holiday season and only purchase certified items by the department.

The government has always reiterated the need to avoid buying uncertified products, as they pose safety hazards like fire, electric shock, and other injuries, particularly during the festivities.

To help the public identify the certified products, the DTI—Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) published a list of certified Christmas lights and fireworks products on its website to help consumers make safe and secure buying decisions. The list includes details such as manufacturers, importers, and product descriptions.

DTI Secretary Cristina Aldeguer–Roque emphasized DTI’s commitment to maintaining the highest quality of all products in the Philippine market.

Christmas lights and firecrackers are among the 109 products and systems subject to mandatory certification under the BPS, ensuring customer safety.

The trade department advised buying only items with Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers and Philippine Standards (PS) marks, which indicate that the products have undergone thorough testing and meet the necessary quality and safety standards.
