Gree, a Chinese company known for its home appliances, is reportedly exiting the smartphone business after entering the industry just a few years ago.
Reports suggest that Gree will shut down its smartphone division due to declining smartphone shipments in China — which saw its lowest in the first quarter of 2023.
The company started getting into smartphones in 2015, and during its peak, it had 100 people on its team. During its launch, the company’s chairwoman even said that they could “easily surpass” Xiaomi in the smartphone industry. They even said that their devices are as good as iPhones.
However, Gree remains relatively unknown to the mainstream smartphone market and is obviously way behind other Chinese brands like OPPO, vivo, and of course, Xiaomi.
The official website for Gree’s smartphone is already down with the main website only listing two remaining smartphone models for sale.
