Taiwan-based mobile chip manufacturer MediaTek has reportedly entered a collaboration with NVIDIA to build mobile processors with NVIDIA GPUs.
Per information obtained from industry sources by Taiwanese newspaper DigiTimes, an upcoming MediaTek flagship mobile chipset could be built and powered by NVIDIA graphics as early as 2024.
In addition, the two companies will also be developing Windows on ARM components, which are expected to outperform MediaTek’s current chips for Chromebooks and will be integrated into mid-range to high-end notebooks. The partnership to co-develop WoA platform products, leveraging NVIDIA’s GPU and AI tech, aims to expand its presence in the notebook market.

Though NVIDIA’s annual revenue dropped by 21 percent in Q4 2022, the company has managed to secure large-volume orders for its A100/H100 chips and A800/H800 GPUs. NVIDIA also reserved CoWoS packaging capacity at semiconductor foundry TSMC, which secured follow-up orders for said chips.
Meanwhile, MediaTek currently has a 20-percent share of the entry-level Chromebook market. Industry projection anticipates worldwide shipment of Chromebook units to remain steady in 2023 at approximately 20 million units.
MediaTek previously partnered with NVIDIA’s major rival AMD in 2021, with their collaboration resulting in the development of the AMD RZ600 Series Wi-Fi 6E Modules incorporating the MediaTek Filogic 330P chip.
