Researchers from San Francisco are developing artificial intelligence that can code like a professional software programmer. This AI can deliver a task in just a few seconds, and you simply tell it what you want it to code using natural language.

Known as OpenAI Codex, this AI system can understand human language, take requests, and produce a program in a dozen programming languages. Its user interface is simple: a window to receive typed commands, another screen to display the corresponding code, and a third for the actual output.

Artificial-Intelligence

It’s quite a capable AI. You can order Codex to draw or solve anything. Through machine learning, it can even create video games. While skilled programmers should worry about it potentially displacing them from their jobs, the Codex developers see it as a tool meant for helping humans code faster, not replace them.

OpenAI Codex is not readily available for testing. You’ll have to join a waiting list.
