Can’t decide between Android’s top dog, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, or Apple’s iPhone 16 series? Well, if your primary consideration is 5G speeds, there’s a clear winner — at least in the Philippines
Internet speed analytics firm Ookla released a report that analyzes the 5G performance of the new iPhone 16 and 16 Pro models. The report came from the Speedtest data on 11 select countries from September 20 to October 20, 2024.

It shows, that in the Philippines, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series beat the iPhone 16 family in terms of 5G upload and download speeds, as well as latency. But if you’re deep into the Apple ecosystem and are planning to upgrade, don’t worry as the latest iPhones showed 5G improvements over the iPhone 15 and 14 series.
However, the rankings are different in other countries. In India, the iPhone 16 series dominated, as well as in Taiwan.
The latest iPhones also dominated in European countries like Belgium and France.
It looks like the regional ISPs, not just the phones themselves, are the main factors behind the rankings. In select Latin American markets, Galaxy S24 also dominated while in Mexico, for some reason, the iPhone 14 series is on top.
Ookla promised to continue monitoring how these devices perform, so stay tuned for that.
