Western Digital, the parent company of SanDisk, introduced two new memory cards with ground-breaking capacities: an 8TB SD card and a 4TB microSD card. They also showcased an external SSD with the largest capacity yet.

First, there’s the SanDisk 8TB SDUC UHS-I card with speeds of up to 100Mb/s suited for mirrorless cameras. With this card, photographers can shoot about 164,000 RAW files from a 24-megapixel sensor without changing cards. It should also be able to record days worth of footage. That is, of course, if you trust a single card holding that many files.

There’s also the new SanDisk 4TB microSDUC UHS-I card which, when attached to a Nintendo Switch, will let you save up to a whopping 660 games with 12GB file sizes.

The new SanDisk cards are equipped with the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard which, in theory, is capable of a storage capacity of up to 128TB.

Other than memory cards, SanDisk also introduced a new version of its SanDisk Desk Drive, an external SSD now with a whopping 16TB of storage.

These are just some of the tech that Western Digital has showcased the the Future Memory and Storage Conference (FMS2024).

Pricing and availability details for these new storage devices are yet to be announced.
