The Asia-Pacific region, including China and Japan, showed an increased market in tablet products with a 1.5 percent year-on-year growth in 2022 for a total of 57.8 million units produced, per research firm IDC.

Alongside the growth are consumer shipments that grew 4.5 percent for 45.4 million units. 

Total shipments, however, were anticipated to decrease by 11.5 percent in 2023, following lowered demand post-pandemic. The forecasted reduction in the overall distributions will reduce the number of units to 51.1 million.

Senior Market Analyst for Client Devices Research at IDC Asia-Pacific Jennifer Kwan claimed, “China was the major growth contributor in Asia-Pacific.”

Troubled by the ramifications of the global health crisis for much of 2022, the Chinese market showed softened demand across its regions concordant to the shift of interest from “devices to other categories,” she added.

Highlighting its paramount importance among countries in the APAC region, amid a decline in the commercial market by 8.5 percent, education showed exclusive growth in 2022 because of government efforts and substantial education projects. In particular, in the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, and India.

Arising from businesses choosing to be cautious in IT spending, distributions to the private sector declined. And as commercial enterprises continue their cautionary spending, retail spending on devices will also expectedly reduce.
