Huawei and OPPO are the current leaders in today’s battle for the best fast charging technology in a smartphone. Now, Vivo is looking to capture the crown as they threw hints of a new fast charger capable of pushing up to 120 watts.

The brand posted about the new development on Chinese site Weibo. With the 120 watt fast charging, it’s three times quicker than Huawei’s current 40 watt implementation present in flagship devices like the P30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro.

OPPO’s Super VOOC which is capable of hitting 50 watts is no match for Vivo’s new fast charging technology. The R17 Pro and Find X can get fully-charged in under an hour, but it’s nothing against the 120 watt’s ability to fill up a similarly-sized battery capacity in just 13 minutes.

While every other smartphone in the market are struggling to get 50% in 15 minutes, Vivo is stepping in to show that they can go from 0 to 100% even in a much shorter period of  time.

There’s currently no information on when will Vivo release a product compatible with the new charging technology, so we’re inclined to believe that it’s still several months up to a year before it hits the market. The Weibo post included a #Vivo5G hashtag, which could possibly mean that it’s coming up with a device that supports 5G.

But Vivo isn’t the only one making strides in the fast-charging department. Earlier this year, Xiaomi has also showcased its own 100 watt fast charging technology that recharged a 4,000mAh battery to 100% in just 17 minutes.
