Xiaomi is pushing the envelope in smartphone charging technology anew with the introduction of its 200W HyperCharge.
The tech giant demonstrated the new Xiaomi 200W HyperCharge in a video you can watch below. The technology was showcased on a custom-built Mi 11 Pro, the company’s latest flagship that comes with a 4,000mAh battery — the average capacity on smartphones today.
It started with the device at 1% charge. Once plugged, it went up rapidly to 10% charge in only 44 seconds, 50% at 3 minutes, and reached a full charge just a few seconds before the timer arrived at 8 minutes.
The second part of the demo showcased the same device being charged by the company’s 120W wireless charger. It got to 10% in about 1 minute and 14 seconds, 50% in 7 minutes, and finally, a full 100% charge in exactly 15 minutes.
Both charging technologies managed to top speed records. However, we’re curious to see what kind of customization Xiaomi did on this device to keep the temperatures in check. As you know, one of the key concerns about charging speeds this fast is possible overheating.
Albeit, the video shows the device working just fine after it ran the tests. Still, it would be nice to see a hands-on video of this working, which may take a long time since no word yet what market-ready device it will ship on and when it’s coming.
