In compliance with the new law, DITO Telecommunity said that its subscribers can start to register their SIMs in three months.
The third telco announced that it currently has 13 million subscribers and said that hitting 15 million in the remaining months of 2022 is a “doable target”. Moreover, during the launch of its flagship experience store in SM Megamall last Saturday, DITO’s Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano said that they plan to implement the SIM registration “as fast as we can — in three months”.

DITO also said that they will implement the SIM registration “ahead of the implementing Rules and Regulations at no cost to subscribers.” DITO said that they will “absorb the cost” of the process.
The company’s Chief Technology Officer, Retired Major General Rodolfo Santiago, said that the structure of registration has always been included in DITO’s system as it’s part “of subscriber onboarding via the multi-purpose DITO app with subscriber data protected by strict privacy guidelines.”
However, the executive noted that the storage for the SIM registration’s biometrics data is “assumed to be under the government for security, data privacy, and resource optimization.”
Santiago cited that telcos may face a major challenge in the validation of identity.

“It will greatly help if both the national ID system and the passport system will be used as the validation of the identity of the subscriber. Doing so will unburden the telcos of the need to establish another database to store biometrics data, which would be time-consuming and resource-heavy,” Santiago added.
