Globe already has an eSIM since 2018, but it’s only limited to postpaid users. Now, the telco giant announced that the service will be finally available to prepaid subscribers.

The announcement, albeit a little late, comes after its competition Smart already unveiled its own prepaid eSIM back in early July.

“By the end of this quarter, we will launch our leveled-up version of the eSIM because we recognize the opportunity and we can also monetize the convenience that eSIM can give our customers. And it’s also going to restructure the way we operate because there’s less cost, it’s fully Do-It-Yourself. It’s really convenient for the customer,” said Darius Delgado, Head of Consumer Mobile Business at Globe.

This is great news for owners of smartphones with an eSIM feature — mostly iPhone users — who want to get a second SIM but don’t want to be tied to a monthly postpaid plan.

With eSIM technology, users can create multiple profiles using numerous mobile numbers on a single device. This means that they can easily switch lines whether it’s for travel, beyond office hours, for personal business, etc.

eSIMs, especially prepaid ones, are also great for powering accessories like smartwatches and tablets with cellular connectivity. Those are just some of the benefits of eSIMs.

We shall have the price for the Globe eSIM prepaid before the end of September. But to give you an idea, Smart is selling theirs for only Php99 on their own online store, Shopee, and Lazada.
