After many years, Globe Telecom is finally allowing prepaid users to upgrade their physical SIM to an eSIM while retaining the same mobile number.
This is after Globe launched their prepaid eSIM for new numbers in March 2024 and introduced eSIMs for travelers in November 2023. Now, existing and long-time Globe Prepaid users can finally upgrade their physical SIM to eSIM to work with their modern smartphones.
However, the upgrade is not free, as Globe is charging Php99 for the upgrade. That’s the same amount Smart Prepaid is charging theirs.
On the upside, Globe promises that the download and installation process for the eSIM upgrade is seamless and can be done with the GlobeOne app.
To upgrade your Globe Prepaid Physical SIM to eSIM, you can follow the steps below:
- Open the GlobeOne app and access/create your account.
- Go to SIM Hub > Change SIM > eSIM. The app will automatically scan if your device is eSIM compatible.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Access the email that contains the QR Code from Globe.
- Go to your phone’s Cellular settings then tap “Add eSIM”. Scan the QR code and you’re good to go.
For some reason, the eSIM upgrade is not available for us when we tested it. It could be an isolated case so let us know your experience in the comments below.
