Mobile data traffic is expected to continue to rise in 2022 as pandemic restrictions are gradually lifted, according to Globe.
Per the telecom’s head of consumer mobile business Darius Delgado, Globe has seen growth in data traffic last year that the company expects to be sustained this year due to people returning to offices, schools, and other establishments.
Globe recorded a whopping 3,733 petabytes of mobile data traffic in year-end 2021, a 48-percent growth from the 2,517 petabytes of the preceding year. In terms of revenue, Globe posted 77.8 billion at the end of 2021 from mobile data usage, a 5.4 billion increase from 72.4 billion in 2020.
In August 2021, competitor Smart announced a similar sustained growth, not only in data usage but also in the total number of mobile users.
Furthermore, based on statistics from data.ai, Globe shared that the Philippines ranks tenth worldwide in app downloads, a 25-percent year-on-year growth between 2020 and 2021.
