If you haven’t heard, you can now switch telcos in PH without losing your mobile number. But the process has turned out to be not that easy, seamless experience that mobile subscribers were promised because of certain roadblocks.

Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI), the joint venture of the three major telcos in the country, has reported roadblocks that are preventing it from implementing mobile number portability (MNP) as mandated by the Mobile Portability Act.

Some of these roadblocks involve unique subscribe code generation, port order rejections, and mobile virtual network operators. Differences in operations and architecture between the cellular networks have also delayed the implementation of MNP.

Regardless, TCI General Manager Melanie A. Manuel gave assurance to the National Telecommunications Commission that these ongoing issues would be resolved. She cited close collaboration between DITO, Globe, and Smart, as well as the drafting of a service-level agreement, as some of the solutions being used to ensure full implementation of MNP.
