Smart Communications Inc., reported that they’ve been hailed by Ookla as the fastest 5G network provider in the Philippines during the first half of 2021.
Ookla’s test results for the first half of 2021 also show that Smart is the fastest mobile network for four years in a row now.
Smart was able to get a Speed Score of 44.70, which is a huge jump from last year’s score of 24.99. That’s based on 4.9 million user-initiated tests using Ookla’s Speedtest internet testing software taken from the first and second quarter of the year.
The PLDT wireless arm also topped the Fastest 5G Mobile Award with a Speed Score of 204.81. With 200,000+ user-initiated 5G speed tests from the same quarter, Smart’s 5G network managed to provide average download and upload speeds of 220.66Mbps and 20.61Mbps, respectively.
Smart 5G’s speeds are greatly felt in areas like Manila, Cebu City, and Davao City. The fastest one is in Manila, where Smart 5G has an average download speed of 268.01Mbps and 81.82Mbps for upload.
The internet speeds in the Philippines are expected to climb further in the coming months as telcos like PLDT-Smart, with the help of the government, are ramping up the construction of new network infrastructures.
