PH Government eyes common tower policy to improve cellular coverage

To ensure the progress in the ICT infrastructure development in the country, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) has launched a monitoring system known as Tower Watch PH.

Per DICT Secretary Gregorio Honasan II in a news release, Tower Watch PH ensures “a more far-reaching and robust ICT infrastructure.” It is designed to be future-proof, so that the development of tower-related infrastructure by the current administration will continue to the next administration instead of becoming sidelined.

Aside from its function as a monitoring system, Tower Watch PH is also designed to help simplify the process of deploying connectivity infrastructures. This is done by easing up on regulation and speeding up the issuance of tower permits. It also aims to complement other government projects in improving connectivity infrastructure at remote locations.

The launch of Tower Watch PH was attended by DICT officials, telco industry representatives, and the convener from the similarly named digital infrastructure watchdog, Telecom Tower Watch.
