A new carpooling initiative has started in Metro Manila, offering commuters a fresh way to travel. Grab Philippines, teaming up with the nation’s Department of Transportation, is testing the service called “Sabay Sakay.”

The Grab Sabay Sakay pilot program is focused on a direct route connecting Pasig and Makati. It has set boarding locations at Ayala Malls The 30th in Pasig and Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati. The service is available during peak travel times, from 6AM to 10AM in the morning and from 4PM to 8PM in the evening.

A flat rate of Php80 is charged for each ride. Commuters can head to a pickup point, where they will find staff to verify their destination. Payments are handled digitally through a QR code system, eliminating the need for physical cash. Vehicles are scheduled to leave each stop every ten minutes to provide regular service.

The main idea behind the project is to improve transportation efficiency. By encouraging people to share rides, the partners hope to decrease the overall volume of cars on the road, particularly during rush hours. Personnel are stationed at the stops to help users and ensure the service operates as planned.
