Memory shortage has caused disruptions in the PC market, causing aggressive price hikes on laptops. Other brands have resorted to downgrading specs to meet certain price tags, while other resulted to using Chinese memory modules (which were apparently ineffective).
Now, HP has come up with an interesting solution. Instead of buying expensive laptops, consumers have the option to rent them monthly.
It’s called the OMEN Gaming Subscription, where you can rent an OMEN gaming laptop with various specs options at a monthly price.

This “subscription-based” program means you’ll never own the hardware. Instead, you can use it extensively, then upgrade to a newer model if you want to.
HP also highlights that going the subscription route offers a soft credit check, a 30-day trial, and an ongoing warranty.

Prices start at USD49.99 (~Php2,900) per month. After 15 to 25 months of paying, you would accumulate an amount that’s almost the same as buying the laptop for you to own.
Apart from gaming laptops, there’s also the HP Laptop Subscription that offers Pavilion, Envy, OmniBook, and EliteBook laptops centered on productivity. Price starts at just USD34.99 (~Php2,000) per month.

You can also add accessories such as headsets, monitors, microphones, mice, USB mics, keyboards, and USB-C hubs for as low as USD3.99 (~Php231) per month.
This is a good deal if you’re someone who wants to constantly upgrade, albeit HP only allows users to switch devices after 12 months.
What’s worse, if you can cancel the subscription right away, you’re required to pay the remaining payments left in the 12 months.
So, what are your thoughts? We’re personally more inclined to get a laptop through a credit card with a monthly amortization.
