A group of tech companies has released the first version of a new online office suite called Euro-Office.
Led by Nextcloud and Ionos, the goal is to give businesses and public organizations a way to work on documents, spreadsheets, and presentations without relying on paid tools like Microsoft Office or Google Docs.
The current release is stable enough for everyday use, according to the team behind it. But there are still some limits. You cannot use Euro-Office as a standalone app on a computer or phone yet. The team also plans to add full support for open document standards, like ODF, in the next big update.

For now, Euro-Office works best when added into existing collaboration platforms. Several companies are already on board as partners. These include XWiki, OpenProject, and Office.eu, among others. Nextcloud and Ionos are also hiring developers to keep improving the software.
Nextcloud has already added Euro-Office into its latest Hub 26 Spring release. But for those who are still on the fence, users will still be able to pick an older tool called Collabora if they prefer. Ionos plans to add Euro-Office to its own Nextcloud Workspace product around the end of summer.

The software is built on top of another open-source suite called OnlyOffice. The partners chose it because they felt its code was more modern than some other free options.
There was a disagreement over licensing when the project was first announced and OnlyOffice raised concerns. But according to Nextcloud’s chief, that issue has now been fixed.
Meanwhile, LibreOffice, another free office suite, recently said it would shift its focus toward web browsers and mobile devices.
