Google has unveiled the sequel to its first smartwatch. Meet the Pixel Watch 2.

The Google Watch Pixel 2 looks the same as last year’s, and that’s a good thing. Like the Pixel 8 series that it came out with, Google didn’t change anything unnecessary and instead focused on polishing the device.

Hence, it now has a longer battery life, which was an issue with its predecessor. As per the company, the watch can last for up to 24 hours even with the Always-On Display (AOD) enabled. A quick 30-minute charge can already provide 12 hours of use.

The improved longevity has nothing to do with the battery hardware. In fact, it has a 306mAh capacity, just a slight increase from 294mAh.The real hero here is the efficiency brought by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor with 2GB of RAM, as well as the new Wear OS 4, which also provides a couple of visual upgrades.

Google also lowered the display resolution to 384 x 384 pixels from 450 to 450 pixels. It also has a new multi-path sensor that’s 40% more accurate in tracking workouts, as well as a new Continuous Electrodermal Activity sensor that can monitor your skin temperature for more detailed sleep quality tracking.

Everything else is identical to last year. It still has a 41mm size, a 1.2-inch OLED display, and an IP68 rating for being dust and water-resistant.

Google has also added a new Emergency Feature where you can set the time when you will be home safe. If the timer runs out, it will send your location to trusted contacts.

The new Google Pixel Watch 2 has a starting price of USD349 (~Php19,700) for the Bluetooth-only model while the LTE variant costs USD399 (~Php22,600). There are a bunch of new straps that start at USD49 (~Php2,800) and a new charger for USD29 (~Php1,600).
