Google is set to introduce Bard AI in Google Messages, allowing users to engage in interactive chats with this innovative AI assistant. The feature was recently discovered in the beta version of the Google Messages app by code sleuth Assemble Debug. Bard AI aims to provide users with assistance in composing messages, language translation, image recognition, and other personalized interests.
This exciting development indicates that users will have the ability to start RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats with Bard, as well as add Bard to their existing conversations. Notably, the feature is yet to be functional on Google Messages, but glimpses of its capabilities have been captured through screenshots enabled by specific flags on a rooted device.
Bard AI within Google Messages will provide a range of useful features designed to enhance users’ messaging experience. Users will have the opportunity to request help from Bard in composing texts, enabling them to conveniently draft text messages, emails, or any other form of written communication. Whether it’s composing a message to inform your boss about taking a sick leave or seeking quick lunch and date ideas, Bard AI will be readily available to lend a hand.

Moreover, Bard AI boasts language translation capabilities, enabling users to effortlessly translate texts into different languages. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals communicating with others who speak different languages or for those seeking assistance in understanding foreign texts.
The AI assistant also leverages image recognition technology, allowing users to identify images. This functionality can be useful in various scenarios, such as identifying plants, landmarks, or objects in images, thereby enabling users to obtain relevant information about objects.
Bard AI takes personalization to the next level by studying a user’s location and past conversations. By doing so, Bard can provide contextually relevant responses and suggestions to facilitate smoother and more tailored interactions.
While Bard AI presents exciting opportunities, it’s important to consider user privacy and data storage. Unlike regular RCS chats, conversations with Bard in Google Messages will not support end-to-end encryption. Additionally, the AI assistant’s chats and other information will be stored for a period of 1.5 years or 18 months.
Google emphasizes that users should refrain from sharing any sensitive information with Bard, as reviewed data is supposedly disconnected from user accounts and retained for up to 36 months. It is worth noting that users have the ability to manage and delete this data manually. For added transparency, Google specifies that once Bard Activity has been switched off, the stored information will still be retained for 72 hours before being permanently deleted.
