Local smartphone brand, Cherry Mobile, take the wraps off their new flagship device — the new Cherry Mobile Flare S6 and S6 Plus.
The unveiling was made more than a week after it was leaked. And now, it appears that the rumors were indeed true. The Cherry Mobile Flare S6 Plus adopted the 18:9 aspect ratio screen and it highlights a quad-camera setup.
On the other hand, the Flare S6 only got a 5.2-inch display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Meanwhile, the Plus has a bigger 5.7-inch screen with a “TrueView” 18:9 aspect ratio. However, the resolution is almost the same, albeit a little bit higher at 1440 x 720 to accomodate the taller display.
Camera wise, the S6 has 13-megapixel BSI cameras on front and back. The Flare S6 Plus is getting a 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel tandem, again, in both the front and back. Judging by its low-resolution partners, it won’t have a telephoto nor a wide-angle lens. However, you can take pictures with a synthetic bokeh effect. Pretty much the same scenario with the Desire R8’s camera configuration.
Cherry Mobile also surprised everybody when they announced their own Cherry OS — a skin that will come with the new Flare S6 devices. It’s Android 7.0 Nougat dressed in Cherry Mobile’s own clothing. Now, considering the brand’s rare follow-up updates, we’re not quite sure if this is a good idea. But the good news is, it is scheduled to receive an Android 8.0 update in the future.

The Cherry Mobile Flare S6 will retail for Php3,999, while the Flare S6 Plus is priced way higher at Php9,999. The Flare S6, together with the Flare S6 Selfie, will be available immediately shortly after its announcement. The S6 Plus will be made available on a later date.
