Cherry Mobile Infinix Pure XL Hands On Review: Massive Computing on the Budget

In case you missed it, Cherry Mobile revealed a couple of new phones at their recently concluded Captain’s Ball. I was lucky enough to be able to take home my own personal Cherry Mobile Infinix Pure XL and after a couple of days with it, I’m ready to share my first impressions of the device.

Build Quality and Design

Homescreen

The design of the Infinix Pure XL is pretty generic. The body is rounded and the bezels on either side of the screen are pretty thick. Thankfully, the back cover is in a matte finish that doesn’t attract fingerprints as much, and the silver strip that runs along the edges of the device is a nice touch.

Back

Unfortunately, the Infinix Pure XL has a pretty big footprint, thanks mostly to the thick bezels on all sides of the screen. There’s also some significant heft to it. A great way to make it easier to handle a phablet is to minimize the bezels and heft, and sadly, the Infinix Pure XL does neither.

Hardware

Camera

Despite its relatively generic appearance, the Cherry Mobile Infinix Pure XL some seriously good hardware, especially for the price. You’re getting a 5.5 inch HD IPS display, 1,4GHz octa-core processor, 8GB of storage, a 13mp primary camera and 2mp front camera. The 1GB RAM and 2,600mAh battery aren’t anything special, but hey, it runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Performance

As this is an octa-core smartphone, performance is reasonably fast, even if it’s been paired with just 1GB RAM when 2GB is the ideal. Navigation through the UI is fast and snappy and there is hardly any delay when launching apps. Above is a screenshot from Antutu where it scored 27,923, placing it slightly above the HTC One M7.

First Impressions

Back

The Cherry Mobile Infinix Pure XL isn’t the prettiest phone out there, but it is one of the most bang for buck. You’re getting the same specs as the Cosmos One (also from Cherry Mobile)and getting enough savings left over to buy yourself a 16GB micro SD card to go along with it! With its large screen and capable SoC, I’d say this is a phone budget-minded smartphone gamers will appreciate.
