Honor’s latest midrange phone, the Honor Play 5, has made its official debut in China.
The Honor Play 5 is a descendant of the first Honor Play. Remember that device? A flagship-spec-ed midrange phone that went against the first POCO?
Like is predecessors, the Play 5 boasts a couple of interesting specs for the price. For starters, it has a flagship-level 66W fast charger. A full 0% to 100% charge will only take 35 minutes as it has a relatively small 3,800mAh battery.
Under the hood, it’s powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 800U octa-core processor — a chipset that carries 5G connectivity. We then have a 6.53-inch OLED screen on the front with a standard 60Hz refresh rate.
The Play 5 runs on last gen’s Android 10-based Magic UI 4.0 interface. Since its separation from Huawei, Honor is now allowed to have Google Mobile Services on their smartphones. But since this one came out in China, it will not have one. But expect the global version (if it will ever have one) to come with GMS.
Around the back, there’s a 2×2 layout for the quad cameras with the LED flash in the middle. It comes in Black, a White-Blue gradient, and a more attractive Purple with sunrise-like reflections. You can also notice the flat edges. Quite refreshing than the curved chassis that most smartphones have today.
The Honor Play 5 has a price of CNY2,099 (around Php15,600) for the 8GB/128GB version, while the 8GB/256GB is available for CNY2,299 (around Php17,100). It will be available in China this May 26.
